Center of Applied Research and Nanotechnology (CARN) was started in Siddaganga Institute of Technology as an institute-wide integrated R&D and academic facility. This 1600 m2 area facility is located on the fourth floor of Sree Sivakumara Swamiji Centenary Building (TEQIP building). Center is established to carryout research to solve critical national problems in the field of Energy, Defence, Infrastructure, health and hygiene, and Engineering Education. The facility consists of clean rooms (Class 100 and Class 10000) and “non-clean room” area. The facility integrates three laboratories (Lab 1 for Nanoelectronics and Nanomaterials research; Lab 2 for Nanomaterials and Nanobiotechnology research; Modelling lab for simulation, modeling, and design activities), faculty offices, classrooms, research scholar’s room, a cafeteria and kitchen, and a reception area. The facility houses some of the indigenously designed laboratory tools, nanomaterials synthesis and characterization equipment, and a vast collection of software and books. SIT was one of the four self-supporting institutions to receive Rs. 5 crore to develop a Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology by TEQIP during its Phase-II funding (2013-2017).

Department of Nanotechnology initiated by the Center has designed an interdisciplinary two year M. Tech. program in Nanotechnology for BE/B. Tech. students from various engineering background. This program is been offered from the academic year 2014-15. To date about 22 students have graduated and are working at various industries/academic institutions.

DeCoders the programming club of SIT is a club which functions under the incubation of the Computer Science Department and every event conducted by DeCoders is directly or indirectly intended to the betterment of the department. DeCoders mainly is a group of like-minded people who have a nag for coding or developing technical solutions to challenging problems. Over the past five years the club has conducted many technical events, seminars etc. The final year members of the team frequently take sessions on programming mostly focusing on algorithmic designs for their fellow team members. These sessions are not only restricted to the members of DeCoders but anyone in the college willing to learn these things are always welcomed. DeCoders also helps its members in developing new projects. The team generally takes a project and members from all the years work on it to complete the project. This gives the members an exposure to the product development environment and also helps them with their resume.
Activities conducted under DeCoders club:
  • Regularly conducts weekly online programming contest
  • Organize technical programs
  • Mock interviews

Sigma is the newsletter of Computer Science and engineering department. It was started in the year of 2001. Team sigma was created to provide the students with updates and information about the latest trends and technology in the domain of computer science.Sigma currently consists of 24 members. The basic idea to form this group was to incorporate any upcoming or latest technology at one place and make the students aware of all information and technology which is worth knowing for any student of a computer science background.
Sigma team also conducts fun and interactive events for students for all years and all branches. It conducts a technical article writing contest for the students each year ,from which three write ups will be selected and published in the edition and will be awarded with cash prizes.

SECTIONS IN SIGMA
Every edition includes different sections designed to provide specific information. They are:
  1. Cover Story: The cover story is an article on the latest technical topic which in trending during the launch of the issue.
  2. Crossword: This is a crossword which is made considering technical terms relating to computer science.
  3. Sci - Fi: The most interesting section of the newsletter is Sci-Fi. It is a trending technical topic in the form a science fiction story. In this the writer tries telling a story which includes some technical concept relating to the world.
  4. Hunting in c/c++: This section consists of four small tricky program snippets in c / c++. The readers try finding the output of these programs.
  5. Tips and Tweaks: This section gives the readers an insight into some small and interesting technical tips which they can try it themselves.
  6. Do it yourself: This section gives a small demo on making of small tech related stuffs. The readers can follow the steps and make the product quite easily with available things.
  7. Open source section: This is a new section added in the year 2016. This section includes open source alternatives to commonly used paid applications.
