SIT is the first institution among the affiliated colleges of the Visvesvaraya Technological University to establish a full-fledged Training and Placement Department with a senior professor, experienced in industry, as its head. The department is responsible for catering to the following needs of students.
The department contacts industries and invites them for campus recruitments.
Guest house accommodation, local hospitality and other infrastructural facilities are provided to the industries to effectively and efficiently conduct campus selection programmes. During the last three years, the department has been successful in getting a number of industries to visit SIT for campus recruitment. These include TCS, Wipro,Bharat Electroncis Limited (PSU), Mercedes -Benz R&D,Sony India, Nokia,JP Morgran,VMWare,Siemens,Aricent,Oracle,Cataraman Ventures, DELL, E&Y ,Allstate, IBM,L & T,Mindtree,National Payment Cooperation Philips Software, Robert Bosch, TVS Group, Kalyani Group, Triveni Engineering etc. A large number of students are getting placed in the industry through campus recruitment.

Short Range Goals
  • Contacting the industries and inviting them for campus interviews
  • Helping the students to face the challenges of the selection process by conducting periodic general aptitude tests, technical aptitude tests, group discussions, mock interviews etc., and making them generally aware of the industrial scenario, their role as engineers, etc.
  • Effectively carrying out institute-industry-interaction in terms of mutual contacts, exchange of information & ideas, arranging visits and technical talks from industrial experts, etc.
  • Arranging vocational training to students in suitable industries depending on their aptitudes and skills.
  • Assisting the departments in arranging project works for students in reputed industries so that the students get hands-on experience in solving industrial problems.

  • To emerge as a leader in placement where multinationals vie with each other to recruit students of SIT
  • To build a leading HR centre to hone the skills of students in industriousness, integrity, communication, analytical ability, industrial awareness and help them to be global players in IT and related industries

Training: The department organizes the following professional development and placement related training programmes every year for all the students in ODD and EVEN semesters.
I / II SEMESTER:  Communicative English
  • From the academic year 2011-12, Communicative English has been introduced in the curriculum as a mandatory subject. The syllabus of communication English for I / II semester students is thoroughly revised and tuned to the present day business requirements. The course content consists of 2 parts namely, Class room lectures of 42 hours and Lab component of 28 hours of self study with online course, Cambridge ESOL developed by Cambridge University is made available to all students. It is a mandatory subject with no credits and students have to pass in the subject.
II SEMESTER:  Feel Employable Programm
  • A three-day orientation programme focusing on oral and written communication, public speaking, group discussion, building self esteem, mind skill development, biodata preparation, comprehension using effective criticism, application writing and team building.
V SEMESTER:   Training Programme on Soft-skills
  • o A six day programme focusing on training students in soft-skills such as interpersonal skills, leadership skills, time management, business etiquette, psychological team building skills, group discussion and personal interview skills.
VI SEMESTER:  Training Programme on Aptitude Related Analytical Skills
  • From the academic year 2010-11, Aptitude Related Analytical Skills has been made a mandatory subject. The expert trainer groups are conducting these classes as per the prescribed syllabus. It is a 36 hours programme focusing on training students in solving logical, quantitative reasoning, general and technical aptitude tests based on companies' requirement. Internal assessment tests and examinations are also conducted.
Industrial Comptency Laboratory (ICL)
  • ICL was established in the year 2002. Since then there has been an ongoing effort to create and impart skills to reorient the students in software development and Industry methodologies. Simultaneously it also aims at providing an inclustrial environment in the academic institutions by imparting competencies and best practices relevent to the industry. Thus, it is an overall endeavor to empower students to be productive from the beginning of their career.

Introduction
Engineering is an applied science. What is learnt in schools and colleges is applied in industry, but there is always a gap between learning and practice, as industrial practices require some additional inputs. To help students acquire these additional competencies and skills, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur rightly thought of establishing an Industrial Competency Laboratory (ICL), a unique and distinct facility for imparting quality technical education.
About the ICL
ICL was established in the year 2002. Since then there has been an ongoing effort to create and impart skills to reorient the students in software development and Industry methodologies. Simultaneously it also aims at providing an industrial environment in the academic institutions by imparting competencies and best practices relevent to the industry. Thus, it is an overall endeavor to empower students to be productive from the beginning of their career.

The course content consists of system analysis and design, knowledge of basic system and application software, tools for development of applications and their utilities in various situations oriented to fulfill the needs of the client. It contains:

Course Duration and Criteria
The Students are normally drawn from computer Science, MCA, Information Science and Engineering, Electronics and Comminication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics and Instrumentation Technology branches. However, students from other branches and streams are also admitted (preferably) with strong computer knowledge). The basic knowledge of C or C++ or Java or VB and VC++ would be necessary.
The students who have obtained a minimum of 60% in aggregate from all semesters are eligible for admission at the end of VI Semester (BE) and IV (MCA), so that, at the completion of their course, they will be empowered with skills to get suitably placed.
The course duration is one year with inputs ranging from 230-250 hours. The first six months of 200 hours, constitute basic training in tools, project orientation and system development. The next six months with 350 hours of enhanced training, is, meant for project development, its execution and successful implemenation.

A Language learning Laboratory has been established and housed in the Dr. Sree Sivakumar Swamiji Centenary Bhavan for improving communication skills, language skills of our students. The cost of this facility as Rs. 25 Lakhs. with 65 networked computers loaded with self learning software for communication skills, language skills, career development and GRE in an A.C. enviornmnet with headphones for each. One english language teacher is engaged to assist the student in the learning process.
