The Department of Architecture came into existence as the 12th under-graduate course in the sprawling S.I.T. Campus during the year 1992. The department is housed in its own building with excellent infrastructure facilities, in a beautiful architectural setting.
The department was started with an intake capacity of 40 seats and now increased to 80 seats. The students get an opportunity to interact with architects from Bangalore and also
get exposed to the rich architectural heritage of the metropolitan city of Bangalore, which is just 60 Km away. The beautiful campus environment and the salubrious climate throughout the year in this part of the country, makes it an ideal place for pursuing architectural studies.
Mission
To develop the young minds, to become self confident in generating thoughts to evolve appropriate designs, synthesizing spaces and shelters, where life and culture grows with better understanding of the past, showing concern for the present and having vision for the future for the creation of Eco-friendly environment and to imbibe in them, the professional ethics with societal commitment, to face the challenges of present day world

  • To provide quality education in architecture in the fields of Architectural Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Physical Planning and Construction Management.
  • To equip students in various skills like AutoCAD, 3ds Max, Revit, Photoshop, so that they get proficiency and become employable in the industry.
  • To design the curriculum to meet the industrial and societal needs.
Long Range Goals
  • To start a P.G. program in Infrastructure Planning / Landscape Architecture.
  • To establish a research and consultancy cell in the department to motivate the faculty and students to take up research programs.

  1. The department has five large studios cum two lecture halls which are well-lit and ventilated with individual lockers facility for every student.
  2. The department has well-established computer laboratory with 40 systems with colour monitors, linked with broadband internet access facility and every teacher is provided with Desktops. The architectural software for drawing work and for 3D visualizations etc., are also available for students use.
  3. The department has A0 plotter - HP make.
  4. The department has A4 size colour printer, 6 Nos A4 laser printers, 2 Scanners and a Xerox machine.
  5. The department is equipped with Climatology laboratory with light level measuring instruments, sound level measuring instruments and various types of temperature and humidity measuring instruments and wind-speed measuring instruments and rain-gauges, etc.
  6. The department is also equipped with Photographic equipments, like Video camera, SLR camera, etc.
  7. Every studio is equipped with Over-head projectors and audio-visual LCD projectors. In addition the department has 3 laptops.
  8. The department is also provided with its own reference/reading library with about 500 volumes of important books and professional magazines and student's thesis projects. In addition, the college itself is having a main library with more than 1,000 architectural books for lending purposes to the students.
  9. The department has the art and model-making workshop, Building materials museum and an Experimental Construction yard facility etc.
  10. The sister departments, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering provide supporting services in their respective fields of expertise related to Building services, construction management, surveying and levelling and building quantity estimation.
  11. In order to provide a good environment for Student-Teacher interactions the staff members of the department are encouraged and sent to several quality improvement programmes to improve their quality of teaching, every year.

National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a National level Aptitude test which measures the aptitude of the applicants who aspires to pursue education in the field of Architecture The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are related to specific field of Architecture.
Department of Architecture at SIT is one among the designated test centers of the region where about 200 students take up the test every year.
Rachana
The cultural festival organized at the Department level annually helps to develop the interaction between students of all the batches. On spot events like Formal -design oriented, Informal - Interactive and personality based and casual events are conducted to nurture the overall development of the students. Successful Practicing Architect from the field will be the chief guest for the event who shares their professional experience to motivate the students.
Annual Exhibition
Exhibition of the academic works of students during the previous year is organized at the Department annually. During this event, outstanding works of students are recognized with a certificate of appreciation.
Seminars
Eminent Architects with experience in various architectural genres are regularly invited for Guest Lecture and Seminars to the students at the at the Department level. Students get ample opportunity to interact with the filed experts.

B.Architecture 5 years
 
Title and Duration of the Course
The course shall be called the Degree Course in Bachelor of Architecture, abbreviated as B. Arch. The academic programme shall be spread over 10 semesters, with two stages viz., Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 shall constitute First Semester to Sixth Semester and Stage 2 shall constitute Seventh Semester to Tenth Semester. During the second stage there shall be a Project work (Architectural project work) and the candidate shall undergo professional training for two semesters. Registration under the Architects Act, 1972, is acceptable only after successful completion of both the stages.
Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE)
CIE for Theory Subjects
CIE is based on quizzes, Tests, assignments and any other form of evaluation. Generally there will be:
  • 4 quizzes (3 marks each)
  • Two tests (17 marks each)
  • Assignments/ Seminars (total 4 marks)
The teacher may give assignments instead of two quizzes which may include sketch books, book reviews, write-ups, seminars etc. as per the subject requirement.
CIE for STUDIO SUBJECTS:
Semester End Examination(SEE)
SEE for THEORY SUBJECTS:
The examination is conducted for 100 marks and is reduced to 50 marks for computation of grades. A student has to obtain a minimum of 40%, (i.e., 20/50 marks) of the marks allotted to SEE, failing which F or X grade will be awarded for that subject. X grade will be awarded when the student has minimum attendance of 85% and minimum of 60% in CIE.
SEE for STUDIO SUBJECTS:
A student has to obtain a minimum of 40%, (i.e., 20/50 marks) of the marks allotted to SEE, failing which I grade will be awarded for that subject. If the student is absent for SEE, F grade will be awarded for that subject.
Portfolio***- Viva Voce will be conducted on the related matters in the portfolio. Assignments (presentation drawings/ studies) done during the semester to be submitted two days before the respective SEE examination. If a Student fails to submit the portfolio two days before of the examination he/ she will be awarded I Grade for that particular subject in Studio subjects and F grade for practical subjects.
Registration process, Attendance requirement and Credit allocation is followed as according to Institution Rules and regulations.
